1. Introduction

Juman ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Juman mobile application (com.juman.app). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Juman is designed with a local-first philosophy — your data stays on your device unless you explicitly choose to sync it.

2. Data We Collect

Account Data

When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. This is processed through Supabase Authentication.

Journal Entries

Your journal entries, including text content, keystroke data (timing and sequence), and timestamps, are stored locally on your device using Hive local database. If you enable cloud backup, this data is synced to our Supabase servers.

Letters

Letters you send to friends or as bottle messages are stored on our Supabase servers to facilitate delivery. This includes the letter content, keystroke data, delivery method selection, and timestamps.

Friend Connections

When you connect with friends, we store user IDs, invite codes, and friendship status to enable the social features.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Location data
  • Browsing history
  • Contact lists
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Third-party tracking data

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Provide core journaling and letter delivery features
  • Generate cryptographic verification hashes for entry authenticity
  • Sync data across your devices (if opted in)
  • Facilitate friend connections and letter delivery
  • Improve app performance and fix bugs

4. Data Storage & Security

Local Storage: Journal entries are stored on your device using Hive database, encrypted at rest by your device's operating system.

Cloud Storage: When you opt into cloud backup, data is stored on Supabase servers with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.

Keystroke Data: Keystroke timing and sequence data is used solely for verification and replay features. It is never shared with third parties or used for analytics.

5. Data Sharing

  • Friends: Only letters you explicitly send are shared with recipients.
  • Bottle Messages: Content is shared anonymously with random users. No personal metadata is attached.
  • Third Parties: We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to third parties.
  • Service Providers: We use Supabase for database hosting and Google Fonts for typography rendering.

6. Your Rights

  • Access: Export your data at any time using the in-app export feature (PDF or JSON with full keystroke data).
  • Deletion: Delete your account and all associated cloud data from within the app.
  • Opt Out: Disable cloud sync at any time to keep all data local only.
  • Portability: Export your entries in standard formats.

7. Children's Privacy

Juman is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be communicated through app update notes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
